West trip #7 Banff, Alberta Canada

August 15th-17th   Our 1st border crossing today.  We drove to Roosville Alberta to cross.  I thought I had researched well on crossing so when I declared my 12 ga. shotgun and turned away I was surprised.   Come to find out that because We where heading to Canadian national parks (Banff and Jasper), no firearms are allowed and I could not bring them into Canada.😠  I had two choices, give up the gun or go back to Eureka Montana and ship it home, except we would not be home for 2 months.   Well I was not giving it up so back to Eureka and find a way to ship a firearm.  FedEx... nope... UPS... no, ended up going to a pawn shop and they could ship it to my daughter Kimberly in Virginia.  So $75 dollars later back to the crossing and on to Banff.   We had some great views on the way and seen our 1st Bighorn sheep about a half mile after entering the Banff NP.  Made our way to Tunnel Mountain trailer park and did som...

Glacier National Park #6

August 12th - 15th     After a great time at Yellowstone we headed to Glacier National park today.  We picked a campground outside the park and made reservations at Murray Bay campground. campsite view Beach behind campsite Murray Bay campsite   We learned a lesson after this one.  We thought 31 miles wasn't too far but it really depends on the road.  It ended up taking a hour to get to the main road from this campground with only a well hand pump for water.  But, it was beautiful back there.  We came in just at dark so supper and sleep.    The next day we headed to Glacier National park.  We found that going 40 or 50 mph ,when not towing, was better over this washboard road rather than 10 or 20 mph.  Glacier NP is kinda of like Zion, you park and use a shuttle for most things and lots of people this time of year.  The problem with shuttles is they don't stop so picture taking is through a dirty windows. ...

August 10th-12th Yellowstone Lake    Heading from Cody, Wyoming into Yellowstone National park via the East gate and Sylvan Pass. Bridges Bay Campsite   This is a short stay because we will be coming back next month for a longer stint.  We are staying at Bridge Bay campground inside Yellowstone. Today we are heading for Lamar valley, Lower falls via Uncle Tom's trail and Tower falls. The view from Artist point is beautiful although the trail was busy.  Lots of people.  Lamar valley was interesting. We only seen bison  and a couple of Antelope  this time. Lots of wide open views.  The next day we awoke to a pleasant surprise as four bull elk decided to pay us a visit.  We headed to Norris geyser basin via Haden valley.     If you come be prepared for Bison delays as they tend to block the road often and people love to take pictures..lol Well we spent mos...
