West Trip 2019 #13 Mt. Rainier National Park
Aug 24th-26th
We are headed to Mt. Rainier NP this morning. It is suppose to take 3 hrs and 41 minutes but when you tow a camper add 40% or so.
We looked at a couple of campgrounds in the park but they are full. We found a NF campground just outside called Buck Creek and it was free for us old folks :) no hookups and no water available. It's located next to Rangers airstrip were small planes can land and Helicopters take off to perform rescues on Mt. Rainer
Finally some boondocking for free. We settled in and prepared for exploring. Decided to drive some of the park to help prepare a plan for hikes tomorrow.
Next day we headed to Sunrise visitor center to do some hiking. Our 1st hike was up to Sourdough ridge.
Then we headed to Emmons vista and on to Silver forest.
The next day we headed to Paradise area over the scariest road yet with sheer drop-offs of hundreds of feet and no guard rails. No pictures of this road for a reason 😨 Pat was a little worried ...lol. We walked to Myrtle falls on a paved easy trail with plenty of company.
Headed back to camp to prepare for our next leg of this journey. Craters of the Moon National Monument.
See ya then,
Tom
