2021 A New Chapter begins

 Hi All,

During our 2020 west trip we sold our home in Wilmington N.C.

and have been renting a townhouse in Charlottesville Va. where we were re-acquainted with big snows.  We are told they normally do not have much snow so I guess this was for us :)

We looked for something around Topsail island for 6 months but prices were crazy.       The townhouse was an experiment to see if we would be happy in an apartment.  We found out a couple things about ourselves.  We do not want steps and we need a little more space from neighbors.  During this time our son in law accepted a job with a church in Birmingham Alabama.   Sooooo we started looking for a small house in Birmingham.  The real estate market is crazy in Birmingham and houses were being snatched up before we could get a virtual tour.  We made a quick trip to take a look at homes that were available and planned to look at 5 houses.  By the time we got there only two of the five houses were still available.  However, while we were there a house that someone backed out of, due to a decision to not get married, showed up in an area we liked and we quickly setup a tour.  This house checked most of our boxes so we made the offer.  Then negotiations began.... Crazy market....  Long story short we  were able to make the deal and have closed on a house near McCalla Alabama.  This will be our new home base for travels and adventures.

We did camp while in Birmingham at Tannehill State Historic park.  It happened to be a trading days weekend and was packed.

Tannehill was interesting.  This was where many Confederate cannon balls where forged during the civil war.  We will need to go visit again and see the many cabins, grist mill and forge.  We didn't spend much time there other than sleeping on this trip, so more to come.
We have left Wilma II (our camper) in Birmingham and plan to move by end of May.  Our next trip is planned for later this year with reservations in Great Sands and Black canyon of the Gunnison NP in Colorado.  It seems that spontaneity is hard this year with so many folks camping and reservations are hard to get in many places.  We actually prefer boondocking but its a risk that no space will be available.

Until Then,
Tom, Pat and Kira
