West Trip 2019 #20 Panguitch, Utah

Image
Sept 6th-7th    We left Salt lake at a decent time and started an 250 mile trip to Panguitch Utah.  Weather was spitting rain some but gone by the time we got to camp at Paradise RV & mobile home park.   Full hookups for $25 a night.  Not bad.  Place is a bit rundown but good for a couple nights.  Pay in cash and slip money in envelope through door as no one is around.    After getting setup we headed for Loose Canyon trail just off the famous scenic Highway 12. Loose Canyon -  It was warming up and although Kira was allowed on the trail she was wanting to turnaround and head for the truck.  We had been in cool weather all summer until Salt Lake city and she was not liking mid 80's...lol.  So after about a 1.25 miles we headed back.    We spent the rest of the day touring views along highway 12 and checking out camping areas for future travels.   Then headed back...

West Trip 2019 #16 Salt Lake City

Sept 4th-6th   We had planned to stay at Salt Lake State Park, however we had no reservations and they had no space.  We did get to see helicopters fighting a brush fire in the hills next to the park. After making some calls we ended up at Salt Lake city KOA in downtown.  It was clean and space was decent for a private campground.  It is warm and we will need air conditioning for Kira our dog while we explore the area.     After getting setup it was time for some dinner.  We decided on a nearby Mexican restaurant called Red Iguana.  Food was awesome and plenty of it. Today we are heading to the Temple square.  We got lucky and scored on street parking in front of the square area.  This is the headquarters for Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. Seagull monument     We toured the small church and the visitor centers (2) and gardens.  It was an interesting history lesson with great displ...

West Trip 2019 #16 Yellowstone again :)

August 31- Sept 4th We took a slow morning as we only had 76 miles to travel today.  We are headed for Grant village campground on Yellowstone lake.  We made it to our campsite by 11am and was able to get setup early.  I made reservations months ago for this site. Our campsite beach at campsite,  Thumbs geyser other side of point What a great site with beautiful views although as in most National parks no hookups.  We spent the rest of the day exploring the area heading to the Thumbs geyser basin which sits right on the lake. Back to camp for some dinner and an easy night before going to bed, maybe a campfire tonight :)    Today is our Cowboy cookout.  We have to head to the northern part of the park about 2 hrs away to Roosevelt corral.  The plan was to horseback ride for 2 hours to the site of the cookout.  However, while waiting to mount up Pat's horse was kicked by the horse next to her an...

Aug. 28-31    We are off early driving through the remote Idaho dry areas.  We passed by the very first Nuclear power plant in the world,  EBR-1 but didn't stop for a tour... We went through the scariest mountain pass of the trip during this leg.  Teton Pass 😱     We are staying at Gros Ventre campground  for the next 3 nights.  We picked a site with mountain view and wow... was not disappointed .  Site was a little small for our rig but we were unhooking anyway so no problem.  We had a great solar while here as well.  Good thing since no hookups at campground. Our campsite view Moose came through here next to our site After getting setup we headed our for some exploring.  Mormon row was our 1st stop and closest to our camp. Pronghorn Antelope Next stop we drove towards Jenny lake and stopped at Schabachers landing.    The next day we headed to Jenny Lake for  a bo...
