West trip 2019 #15 Grand Teton National Park
Aug. 28-31
We are off early driving through the remote Idaho dry areas. We passed by the very first Nuclear power plant in the world, EBR-1 but didn't stop for a tour...
We went through the scariest mountain pass of the trip during this leg. Teton Pass 😱
We are staying at Gros Ventre campground for the next 3 nights. We picked a site with mountain view and wow... was not disappointed . Site was a little small for our rig but we were unhooking anyway so no problem. We had a great solar while here as well. Good thing since no hookups at campground.
After getting setup we headed our for some exploring. Mormon row was our 1st stop and closest to our camp.
Next stop we drove towards Jenny lake and stopped at Schabachers landing.
The next day we headed to Jenny Lake for a boat ride across the lake and hike the Cascade canyon and Hidden falls trails.

Time to head back to camp and dinner. On the way home we had a nice rainbow and a big bull moose feeding at the river next to campground. Of course the paparazzi was there also :)
That night we headed back to Mormons row for a beautiful dark sky. The Milky way was in full splendor. I didn't get any pictures as I don't know how to take night pictures yet. Back to the camper for some dinner and then we headed to the taggert lake area to hear Elk bugling at night. Very cool.
The next day and our last full day here we headed back to Taggert lake for a hike
After we ate some lunch we headed for Moose Wilson rd and Phelps Lake for a hike. Moose Wilson rd is suppose to be a good place to see wildlife. Really didn't see anything except paparazzi. We made it to the Laurance Rockefeller preserve parking area and started our hike via the LSR connector and the Lake creek trail to Phelps lake.
About half way through we had our close encounter with a large bear. At first I thought it was a Grizzly but showing the pictures to a ranger they were pretty sure it was a Black bear in a brown coat. She got within 20 yards of us up to a dead fall and I was hollering at her with the bear spray ready in case. Didn't even think to get pictures until she was heading away from us :o
Phelps lake was nice with good views. We decided to take the other half of Lake creek trail back to the truck and bypass any bear encounter.
Since this was our last night in Tetons we decided to take in Jackson Hole this evening for dinner. Deciding on The Cowboy bar since it's suppose to be a classic. HEADS UP!! Do not order a wine here, Butter Chardonney 2 oz glass $16. I thought is was the bottle price 😡 Classic tourist trap maybe but got the check mark.
Amazing beautiful area, we will return someday Lord willing.
Well time to pack up and get ready for the next leg. Back to Yellowstone NP.
See ya Then,
Tom, Pat & Kira
